Star Wars Galaxies and Bioware?

I just read this rumor over at mmorpg.com.
“Im not going into any details as I dont want any hints to my sources but here goes….
LA pulled the license from SOE. The rumors about February were dead right. SOE was allowed time to transition players (how much is unknown) to their other station pass games. Thats why they stopped selling SWG prepaid cards.
Publish 28, if it gets done will be the last publish to the game. There is a minimal support staff now working on it. Its purely cosmetic changes to keep existing players subscribing
Bioware did indeed gain rights to develop a second version of SWG. It wont be called SWG2. Its not a completely new game but rather a reworking of existing code. Bioware is currently hiring a large team to work on the game and prefer experience with SWG. Pre-cu is a plus
The focus groups information was handed basically directly to Bioware. Some of the questions, like a KOTOR experience were hints to you folks as to who was behind it.
My source or sources only stated what they know. They didnt speculate on how long development would take. No clue on the rumors if its tied into a television show. No clues on pre-cu, cu, etc. And finally, no clue on an announcement or what SOE will say about this.
I trust this source’s info 100%. Believe what you will but it looks like SOE’s tyranny is over. ”
If this is true, SWG fans should rejoice. However, I won’t think about playing it if the pvp is screwed up or completely ignored. If you don’t know who Bioware is, read this post: Tayman is Psychic!

If we can believe these rumors originally from mmorpg.com it looks like Star Wars Galaxies is very soon history for Sony Online Entertainment. According to the news Lucas Arts withdraw the SWG license…

I hope they come out with a better swg. That would be great I have been with SWG now from week one way back in I think it was 2002? the game had its ups and downs but there at the end when they changed the game or really remade the it 99% of people left. Even long time vets like myself and many many of my friends. So I will sit back and wait and see what bioware will come out with .

All i have to say is how wrong was you, Pub 28 has been and gone and Pub 29 is almost ready to go Live. Ive noticed SOE have hired more staff and also FYI. When SWG was first released SOE released the contract terms of SWG whichstated that they had the license rights up until 2007 and are obliged to keep servers open for an extra year after the contract is up. Nice try but *Offers Cookie*.

Yep… SOE will be running the show for a bit longer. Contracts are usually 3 years. Chances are, SOE will get the contract again, but who knows. I’ve seen the rumors about BIOWARE and a possible Star Wars MMOG. They’re being pretty tight-lipped about it all. If they do create a new SWGish game, it won’t be for a while.
