The Warriors - First Console Game Review

Before I begin giving you my opinion of this game, I want you to understand how I play most video games. For starters, I am an evil gamer. I pk in MMORPGs and I find out all the evil things to do in console games as well.
A friend of mine (someone I have known since middle school) made a visit from out of town a few weeks back. Whenever we get together to nerd around on a video game, we make it a point to do the exact opposite of what is asked of us…then laugh our asses off. Usually it’s hilarious for anyone watching or frustrating for someone who is trying to tell us what we should be doing….lol.

The Warriors
Anyway, three of us got together a few weeks back to play The Warriors and Time Splitters Future Perfect. Fancy graphics and sound mean nothing if the game isn’t fun; it’s just icing on the cake. Here is a little snippet of what the game is about:

New York, 1979.
A battle on the streets.
The armies of the night number 60,000 strong,
and tonight they’re all after The Warriors
- a street gang wrongly accused of killing a rival gang leader.

The Warriors must make their way from one end of New York
to their turf on the other side of the city.
All that stands between The Warriors and their survival are 20 miles
and thousands of street gang members.

Is the game fun?
I definetly think it is fun. It allows you to have quite a bit of freedom while advancing the story. If you want to smash the person your suppose to protect (or gain new quests from) you can. There are quite a few sidequests for you to do, but most of them involve tagging(graphitti) certain areas of the city.

The game would be amazing if it allowed four people to play, but two is ok. If the second player moves to far away from the first player, the view switches to split screen. It’s very annoying when it keeps switching back and forth…luckily you can lock it into split screen.

The game is much too short in my opinion. There were obvious limitations to the length of the game since it is based on a movie. However, a veteran gamer could easily complete everything in the game in one rental. It’s a great game to play with a friend every now and then, but I wouldn’t buy it for that reason alone.

Is the game pk(Player Killer) friendly?
There are quite a few evil(fun) things you can do in the game. You can mug anyone you see on the street, steal car radios, vandalize/rob stores, throw just about any object at anyone or anything, or even kick your own gangs ass at the hideout. The wide variety of weapons you can wield will help you in your quest of domination.

Sound, graphics, story, etc.
The sound is done very nicely. The voice acting makes you feel like you are there and the sound effects are exactly what you would expect from Rockstar; excellent. Character models in this game look exactly like the actors from the original movie. You can actually tell if your character is getting his ass kicked simply by looking at him. All of the cutscenes are done with the in-game engine…so it’s hilarious to get to the end of a mission and notice that the only one who looks like he got his ass kicked is your character.

Invite a few friends over, rent the game, and expect to have a good time.
