I’m Still Alive :)
Well, I’m back home now. We definetly had a large amount of rain. Apparently, we will still receive lots and lots of rain, but its clear atm.
The house is in perfect condition; that’s definetly a blessing. We planned to head out of town, but as we watched the news closely, our area of the city wasn’t expected to receive much rain and winds. The traffic trying to get out of town was absolutely ridiculous anyway. It took people anywhere from 12-24hours+ to make a 6 hour drive to Dallas..Over 1 million people are out of power in Dallas. Talk about being pissed off if I had to make that drive.
Many people were running out of gas before making it out of town, or there cars couldn’t take the constant stop and go for hours. Even if you had a full tank, many people were simply running out of gas. I hope people aren’t rushing back to Houston before the gas gets here….that would be stupid.
Unfortunately, there was a bus explosion on I-45 north heading toward Dallas. Several senior citizens from a retirement home were being moved to a location in Dallas. The bus stopped minutes earlier to get a flat changed. Soon after, the bus came to a stop and the brake system started to catch on fire. (Sounds like someone screwed something up when they tried to change the brakes..) Several people were able to get some of the senior citizens off the bus, but over 20 burned to death. The oxygen tanks the Americans were using exploded. It’s a very sad situation.
I am glad that I filled up my gas tank before I left….there is NO gas anywhere…period.
As for looting, a few knuckleheads tried robbing a few stores during the storm…but were arrested. There were way more police officers on the road than usual. Looting wouldn’t be much of an issue anyway in Texas(especially Houston). The concealed handgun laws as well as the crazy Texans who have plenty of pride in their homes, city, and state simply wouldn’t allow it. You would be suprised to find out how many people I saw at the gun shop stocking up on ammo/guns just in case. Don’t ask me what I was doing at the gun store….
Anyway, Houston was definetly blessed and dodged a bullet this time. I hope Port Author and parts of Louisiana are doing ok.
