7 Tips to Avoid Being Scammed
Most people who are new to MMORPGs don't last long if they are scammed. A few online friends
may hate me for telling all the "secrets", but the best way to figure out how to scam is to find out what scams are
currently out there. A little common sense is all you need to avoid most scams. Here are a few tips to help
you:
- If a deal is to good to be true, it usually is - This works in real life as well. Common sense is
required to make this work. Always double check the prices for items. Many people will claim they are lagged
and repeatedly open the trade window. They are hoping you will just click ok after a few tries out of frustration
and impatience. The item will usually be switched at this point. One of the oldest tricks in the book, and it still
works. Make sure you never give someone an item without getting something in return.
- Don't lend out your gear to anyone under any circumstances - It doesn't matter if someone wants
to see what they look like in your gear, offer to enchant or upgrade for a reduced price, or want to trade gear
for whatever reason...don't do it.
- Find out if someone is really a Game Master(GM) - This is also an old trick. Don't believe every "GM
" you see is really a GM. Ask them to do something for you that will prove that they are a GM. Make sure you
tell them you don't want to get scammed.
- Don't give ANYONE your account info - This should be self explanatory, but I think some people will do it
anyway. Many people will later claim they were hacked... Even your best friend in real life can screw you over, so be
careful if you have an account that is worth thousands of dollars.
- Don't buy or trade accounts - In games like Lineage 2, the original account owner will forever be the true
account holder. All this person would need to do to take their account back is show proof that they were the original
owner. This could be through CD-Key, original account verification email from NCSoft, etc. *DON'T DO IT*
- When registering for forums, don't use your account name and password from any mmo's you are currently playing -
There are some forum operators and mods who would love to steal your account info. At least you don't have to
worry about that here at karashur.net.
- Don't download any and everything from the web - You would be suprised how many people have trojan horses (computer viruses)
embedded in their website, movie files, pictures, bot and hack programs, etc. I'm not telling you this to make
you paranoid, but you do need to make sure you take the proper precautions to avoid getting screwed over. Make sure you
get some anti-virus software, a firewall, and anti-spyware programs like Ad-Aware and Spybot for your computer. Ad-Aware and Spybot
are free programs, so you should definetly get these; no excuses.
There are some scams that may be due to faulty programming. You should always stay up-to-date in the game you
choose to play so that you can avoid these scams.
In the meantime, keep killing, keep grinding, and don't get scammed! You can't be elite and get scammed all the time.
